Did you know?
When a calf is born, only the abomasum, or fourth stomach, is functioning. Teat feeding triggers a reflex that closes the oesophageal groove in the rumen, directing milk straight to the abomasum for digestion. This method also stimulates saliva production and helps maintain fluid intake in scouring calves. In contrast, if a calf drinks from a bucket, the oesophageal groove may not activate, allowing milk to enter the rumen, where it cannot be digested. This can lead to fermentation and scouring. Calves fed via a teat can gain up to an additional 1.4kg in weight by 12 weeks of age.
Teat feeding mimics a calf’s natural suckling behavior, providing a more instinctive feeding experience. The CT9 EazyFlow teat is specially designed to replicate a calf’s natural sucking action at the udder (ideal for calves 2-4 weeks old). It features a non-return valve that prevents milk from flowing back into the feeder and has side openings that guide the calf to properly position the teat, reducing leakage. Made from natural rubber, this soft yet durable teat is designed to last through an entire calving season and fits any calf feeder with a 22mm opening.
